This semester, students will continue their musical journey by exploring pieces that capture the essence of spring and lyrical expression. The curriculum is designed to build technical control and emotional storytelling through two distinct works. We will begin with "Spring Seedlings" (春苗), a vibrant and uplifting piece that depicts the lively growth of new sprouts. Learning this melody will help students develop a bright, precise touch and master energetic rhythmic patterns, enhancing their ability to convey joy and vitality through music. Following this, we will delve into the poetic "Pipa Whispering" (琵琶语), a modern classic known for its hauntingly beautiful and introspective melody. This piece will guide students in cultivating deeper expressive techniques, focusing on delicate phrasing, dynamic subtlety, and the use of portamento to create a serene and narrative quality. Throughout the term, skill-building in rhythm, ornamentation, and performance presence will be integrated into our practice. The semester will culminate in an informal class presentation, allowing students to share their progress and the beautiful soundscapes of spring and whisper they have mastered.
